How it works

  1. Register. Your name and organisation go on the certificate.
  2. Set up the draw. Tell us the total number of entries and how many winners to pick.
  3. Draw. A secure random selection picks your winner or winners.
  4. Certificate. Download a timestamped audit certificate. One gets emailed to you too.

How fairness is enforced

The winner is chosen using the Web Crypto API, the same cryptographic random source browsers use for HTTPS keys. The pool of valid entries is fingerprinted with SHA-256 before the draw runs, so any later change to the pool invalidates the certificate. Each draw produces a unique reference ID and an in-session attempt counter, and the server records its own timestamp independently of your browser's clock.

Before you draw

This tool ensures a fair random selection. A fair draw also needs you to run it honestly. A few things that help:

  • Run the draw once. Don't keep drawing until you get a number you like. Every attempt is logged.
  • Have a witness present, or record your screen as you run it. Press Cmd + Shift + 5 on Mac or Windows + Alt + R on Windows to start a screen recording.
  • Keep your audit certificate. It's your proof that the process was fair.

Set up your draw

The total number of entries in your draw. On Crowdfunder, each entry gets a sequential number starting at 1.
Between 1 and 5. If you pick more than one, they're labelled 1st place, 2nd place, and so on.
Between 0 and 20. Runners up are drawn after the main winner(s) from the same pool. No duplicates.
Comma-separated. Use this for disqualified entries or test entries you want to leave out of the pool.
